The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine that controls the production, differentiation, and function of granulocytes. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor ,also called filgrastim, is a hematopoietic (blood-forming) factor. Recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF) is produced in CHO cells.
